Senior Systems Administrator – Job Description

Job Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator will play a critical role in supporting and evolving our next-generation infrastructure platforms. This role is responsible for the design, administration, security, and optimization of on-premises and cloud-based systems, including virtualization, server infrastructure, Active Directory, and cloud services.
The Senior Systems Administrator will also partner closely with the Director of Information Security to support enterprise patching, vulnerability remediation, and security monitoring initiatives, ensuring systems remain secure, compliant, and highly available.
Job Location: Remote (India-based)
Working Hours: 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM (US EST) / Night Shift IST

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Systems & Infrastructure Administration

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize cloud and virtualization platforms including AWS, VMware, Azure, and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Design, implement, and document system architectures that support scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Manage Windows and Linux servers across multiple environments.
  • Administer Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, user provisioning, and access controls.
  • Support web and application servers such as IIS and Tomcat.
  • Perform system capacity planning and performance monitoring using tools such as Nagios, PRTG, and Cacti.

Security, Patching & Monitoring

  • Assist the Director of Information Security with enterprise-wide patch management initiatives.
  • Perform BIOS, firmware, OS, and security patching across Windows, Linux, and virtualized environments.
  • Support vulnerability scanning, remediation, and validation efforts.
  • Participate in security monitoring and alert triage.
  • Assist with audit preparation and compliance reviews.
 

Operations & Support

  • Provide advanced remote troubleshooting for hardware, software, networking, VPN, VoIP, and email systems.
  • Address escalated service tickets with proper root cause analysis.
  • Manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Assist with vendor coordination and hardware procurement.

Automation, Scripting & Documentation

  • Develop automation using PowerShell and Shell scripting.
  • Use Git or similar source control systems.
  • Create and maintain system and operational documentation.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor Associate and Mid-Level System Administrators.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex issues.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with IT and Security teams.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 8+ years of system administration experience.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, MCSA, MCSE preferred.
  • Strong scripting, virtualization, and cloud experience.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • AZ-104 Certification Completed
